Homemade Baby Food-Squash

Today I am tying up some loose ends of some things I had taken pictures of to share on here.  I have since retired the Baby Bullet, as Blair is eating more and more real food, but I may keep it handy to puree some stuff that it too hard for her to eat just yet.

Today's feast is Butternut Squash!

1.  Buy a butternut squash, here's what it looks like.

2.  Cut it in half length-wise and scoop out the seeds.  I didn't take a picture of that.

3.  Put it in 9x13 glass pan with a little bit of water.  Put it "meat" side down.  (I had to cut one half in half to get it to fit in the pan.)

 4.  Bake it at 350 for about 30 minutes to an hour, until it looks like this.

5.  Flip them over, scoop out the insides, and toss it in the Baby Bullet.

6.  Freeze and store.  This makes a TON!

Baby Applesauce

This is almost comical it's so easy, but I still thought I'd share.

Baby Food Applesauce

1.  Peel and core some apples.  I use this Pampered Chef thing that my mom had.

2.  Put the apples in a little water and throw in some cinnamon.

3.  Pull them out once they're soft and throw in the Baby Bullet or food processor.

4.  Blend until smooth or a little lumpy if you want some texture.

5.  Freeze and enjoy.

Pears

Today I will share with you how I make pears for Blair's baby food.  It's not hard at all and sometimes I sneak a few bites myself.  Sorry it's not a super exciting post.

1.  Buy pears, I had 4 this time.

2.  Peel, chop and put in a little water.

3.  Cover and let simmer for awhile, like 20-30 minutes, until they are mushy.

 4.  Put in Baby Bullet, blender, or food processor and give it a few pulses.

5.  Pour into containers.

 6.  Freeze.

I got six 2 ounce servings, so 12 ounces of pears.

Baby Broccoli

When Blair was born, I decided to make her baby food.  I'm not super healthy or anything ( I try to be) but I figured it couldn't be that hard.  Plus, I liked the idea of knowing what exactly she was eating (all this processed foods and hormones worry me) and it would save money too!  It ended up not being hard at all and at 6 months, I started making all her solid foods.  At 10 months, she is still eating the purees I make, but we have added in some finger foods and she generally has what we have for dinner.

Blair goes to my mom and my mother-in-law for the day while I am at work, I pop the frozen purees for the day in the fridge the night before and they are ready to go in the morning.

Here's my totally complicated (ha, crazy easy) broccoli recipe (if you can even call it a recipe).

1.  Buy broccoli.

2.  Give that broccoli a bath.

3.  I don't have a steamer basket, so I just put a little water in a pot, add the broccoli, and cover it.  I put it on low-medium heat for about 30 minutes or longer, depending on when I remember to go check it.

4.  Once it's soft, I put it in my Baby Bullet.  If you don't have one, you can totally do the same thing with a regular Bullet, blender, or food processor.

5.  Blend that broccoli.

6.  Put in trays and freeze.

7.  Pop out of tray, thaw, and serve.

8.  The Baby Bullet also comes with these containers that you can serve the food out of.
Blair's showing you her empty container.  She's in the clean plate club.  She was too cool to look at mommy though.

Blair likes broccoli with any other veggies (carrots, sweet potatoes, squash) or by itself.

This much broccoli made seven 2 oz servings, so 14 oz. total.
So cheap, so easy, so good (if you're a baby, I, on the other hand, hate broccoli.)
